Privacy policy

Private by design, clear in practice.

AndroidSync's native apps connect paired devices directly. This page explains what the apps handle and what stays on your devices. Last updated 25 September 2026.

What the apps do

AndroidSync connects Android and Mac over a local network using TLS 1.3 and pinned peer identities. The apps do not include a cloud relay, account system, analytics SDK, advertising SDK, crash reporter or telemetry uploader. Pairing requires an invitation and device trust.

File transfer privacy

File transfers use TLS encryption by default. Version 1.1 also offers an optional unencrypted local TCP mode. When enabled, anyone who can observe the local network can read those file bytes. Pairing, notifications, clipboard data, file offers and transfer tokens remain on the authenticated TLS control connection. SHA-256 checks detect file corruption; they do not encrypt data. Turn the option off and restart any canceled batches to transfer privately.

What is stored locally

  • Device identities and trust material are protected by Android Keystore and macOS Keychain.
  • Mac notification history is encrypted and expires after seven days.
  • Clipboard text, links and copied images are encrypted locally. The default quota is 1 GB per source device; old unpinned items are removed first.
  • SMS and contacts cached on Mac are encrypted and exist only for a Mac granted Messages access.
  • Received files are ordinary files in Downloads / Android Sync or a folder you choose.
  • Live screen-mirroring frames are not saved to history.

Permissions you control

Notification access enables mirroring and supported actions. Optional file, SMS, call and Accessibility access is requested for its specific feature. Android screen capture asks for consent at every new session. Separate per-Mac grants control files, messages, screen and remote control.

Diagnostics

Both apps can export a JSON report with version, operating system, aggregate counts and permission states. The report excludes content, filenames, paths, device names and IDs, local IP addresses and credentials. Review any exported report before you share it.

Stream Mode

Privacy Mode, called Blur Sensitive Information (Stream Mode) in Settings, blurs supported sensitive content in each app's interface. With the desktop setting enabled, AndroidSync's Mac alerts show the source app and a hidden-content notice instead of sender names and message previews. It does not erase underlying encrypted data, hide other applications or cover the mirrored phone screen. Hovering reveals an item on Mac, so it can appear in screenshots and recordings.

Website data

The static website in this repository has no first-party analytics code, cookie banner, sign-in or contact form. A future hosting provider may keep ordinary server access logs under its own policy. Download and documentation links lead to GitHub. GitHub handles access and downloads under its own privacy policy.

Your choices

Pause clipboard sharing, revoke a paired device, delete local entries, use Delete everywhere for currently trusted peers, or uninstall the apps. A disconnected peer receives a deletion event only after it reconnects. Received files remain in the folders you selected until you delete them.
